3.2 Assigning a Course to Your Class

How to add a course to your classroom so students can access lessons and assessments.

Written by Kerry Ao

Assigning a course makes its full curriculum available to your students. Once assigned, you can create assignments from any lesson in the course, and the Gradebook will start tracking student progress against it.

Step 1: Open Assigned Courses

Inside your classroom, click the Assigned Courses tab. You'll see any courses already in your classroom displayed as cards.

Step 2: Click "Add Course"

In the top-right corner of the Assigned Courses page, click the blue Add Course button. This opens the course library.

Step 3: Select a Course

Browse the available courses and click the one you want to assign. For most new teachers, we recommend starting with Personal Finance Core Foundations (2e) β€” it's our most current, comprehensive curriculum.

Step 4: Confirm and Assign

You'll be prompted to confirm the assignment. Click Add to Classroom. The course appears as a new card in your Assigned Courses tab, and the curriculum becomes immediately available to your students.

What Happens After You Assign a Course

  • The course appears in your Gradebook course dropdown

  • All lessons become available for assignment creation

  • Students see the course in their student dashboard

  • The Classroom Performance tab starts tracking metrics against this course

  • The course appears in the Rankings β†’ Course Performance filter

Assigning Multiple Courses

You can assign more than one course to a single classroom. This is common when:

  • You teach a full year and want to combine multiple shorter courses

  • You're transitioning students from a legacy course to 2e mid-year

  • You use a primary curriculum but want to pull in supplementary lessons from another course

To switch which course you're viewing in the Gradebook or Classroom Performance tab, use the Course dropdown at the top of those pages.

Course Availability by Tier

Some courses are only available on specific plan tiers. If a course you want isn't visible in the library, check your plan tier in Account Settings. To upgrade, see 10.2 Upgrading or Changing Your Plan.
