You'll notice that some Intertwined courses come in two versions: Legacy and 2e (second edition). Here's how to choose.
What "Legacy" Means
Legacy courses are the original versions of our curriculum. They're fully functional, complete courses β they just predate our most recent content updates. We keep Legacy versions available so teachers who started a course mid-year can finish on the same curriculum their students began with.
Legacy courses include:
Introduction to Financial Literacy (Legacy)
Personal Finance Core Foundations (Legacy)
What "2e" Means
2e stands for "second edition." These are our updated, current curriculum β refreshed for new standards alignment, updated examples (current tax laws, current interest rates, current technology references), and improved instructional design based on years of teacher feedback.
2e courses include:
Personal Finance Core Foundations (2e)
Which Should You Choose?
Choose 2e if:
You're new to Intertwined
You're starting fresh at the beginning of a semester or year
You want the most current examples and standards alignment
Your students haven't started any lessons yet
Choose Legacy if:
You started the school year on Legacy and want consistent terminology and structure throughout
Your district or department has specifically standardized on the Legacy curriculum
You're partway through a course and switching versions would disrupt student progress
Your existing pacing guide is built around the Legacy version
What's Actually Different?
The most notable differences between Legacy and 2e:
Area | Legacy | 2e |
Standards alignment | Original alignment | Updated for current standards |
Examples & data | Older examples | Refreshed for current era |
Instructional design | Original format | Refined based on teacher feedback |
Lesson order | Original sequence | May differ in places |
New topics | Original scope | May include newer topics (e.g., updated digital banking, fintech, AI literacy) |
Can I Switch Mid-Year?
Yes, but plan for some disruption:
Student progress doesn't carry over between versions (a lesson in Legacy is treated as a different lesson than the equivalent in 2e)
Your Gradebook will reset for the new version
Pacing may need adjustment
If you want to migrate, we recommend doing it between semesters or units, not mid-unit.
Can I Use Both?
Yes. You can assign both Legacy and 2e to the same classroom. This is useful if you want to pull specific lessons from each version, though it adds complexity to your Gradebook. Most teachers stick to one version per classroom.
