When students don't have email addresses, or you just want to skip the registration process, generated credentials let you create the entire roster in under a minute.
Before You Start
Important: If a student already has an Intertwined account, do not create new credentials for them. Share the class code instead so they can join your classroom with their existing account. Creating duplicate accounts causes login confusion and splits their progress data across two accounts.
Step 1: Open the Create Credentials Flow
Inside your classroom, click the Students tab.
Click the blue Create Credentials button in the top-left of the roster.
You'll land on the Create Student Accounts page, which displays an example of what generated accounts will look like (e.g., Apple01 with password Tape-139, Apple02 with password Time_852, and so on).
Step 2: Choose a Default Username
In the Default Username field, type a base username for your students. Intertwined will append numbers to this base to create unique usernames.
Examples:
Base "Apple" → Apple01, Apple02, Apple03, …
Base "Period1" → Period101, Period102, Period103, …
Base "Lincoln" → Lincoln01, Lincoln02, Lincoln03, …
Tips for choosing a base:
Use something neutral and easy to type (avoid special characters or numbers)
If you teach multiple periods, use a different base per period (e.g., "P1Apple," "P2Apple") so accounts don't collide
Keep it short — students will type this every time they log in
Step 3: Choose the Number of Accounts
In the No. of Students field, enter how many accounts to generate. We recommend creating 2–3 extra accounts beyond your roster size to cover late additions.
Step 4: Click "Create Accounts"
Once you've entered a username and a count, the Create Accounts button activates. Click it.
Intertwined generates the accounts immediately and displays the full list of usernames and passwords. Don't navigate away — you need to export this list before leaving the page.
Step 5: Export and Distribute
Use the export option to download the credentials as a CSV or PDF. Then distribute to students in whichever way fits your classroom:
Distribution ideas:
Printed slips — Cut up a printout into individual student credential cards
Sealed envelopes — One envelope per student with their login info inside
Sticker labels — Print on Avery labels and stick to the inside cover of student folders
LMS message — Send individually through Google Classroom or Canvas (more private than handing out paper)
Security tip: Don't post the credentials list publicly or store it where unauthorized people could see it. Keep a backup copy in a secure location (your school's password manager or a locked drive folder) in case a student loses their slip.
Helping Students Log In for the First Time
Once credentials are distributed, students:
Go to intertwinedfinance.com
Click Login
Enter their assigned username and password
They're in — no class code needed, because they were created directly inside your classroom
Managing Generated Accounts Going Forward
Generated accounts behave exactly like self-registered ones once created. They appear in your Students tab, their data flows into your Gradebook and Performance tabs, and they can participate in simulators just like any other student.
If a student forgets their password, you can re-generate credentials for them — see 11.1 Student Can't Log In for the recovery flow.
