2.1 Creating Your First Classroom

How to create a new classroom from scratch, name it effectively, and understand what gets created behind the scenes.

Written by Kerry Ao

A classroom in Intertwined is the container for everything that happens with a specific group of students — their roster, assigned courses, assignments, gradebook, simulator activity, and performance data all live inside it. Most teachers create one classroom per class period.

Step 1: Navigate to All Classes

From your dashboard, click All Classes in the top-left corner. This is your home base — every classroom you create will appear here.

Step 2: Click "Create Class"

Find the Create Class button in the top-right corner of the All Classes page. Click it to open the new classroom form.

Step 3: Name Your Classroom

Give your classroom a clear, identifiable name. We strongly recommend a consistent naming convention so you can tell classes apart at a glance.

Recommended formats:

  • Subject – Period → "Personal Finance – Period 1"

  • Subject – Block → "Economics – Block B"

  • Subject – Year → "Financial Literacy – 2025–2026"

  • Period – Subject – Time → "P3 – Personal Finance – 10:15 AM"

Why naming matters: Your students see this name when they log in. If they're enrolled in multiple Intertwined classes (rare but possible), a clear name helps them pick the right one.

Step 4: Confirm the Date and Create

The Date Created field auto-fills with today's date. This is for your records only — it doesn't restrict when students can join or when assignments can be due.

Click Create. You'll land on your new classroom's Classroom Performance tab, which will be mostly empty until you add students and assignments.

What Happens Behind the Scenes

When you create a classroom, Intertwined automatically:

  • Generates a unique class code (visible via the blue Share Class Code button)

  • Creates an empty roster in the Students tab

  • Creates a blank Assignments list

  • Sets up the Gradebook structure (it'll populate once you add courses)

  • Prepares simulator infrastructure (if your tier includes simulators)

Editing or Deleting a Classroom

You can rename or delete a classroom anytime from the Settings tab. See 2.7 Editing Classroom Settings and 2.8 Deleting a Classroom for details.
