11.6 Browser & Device Requirements

Which browsers and devices work best with Intertwined, and what to do if students can't access on their school-issued hardware.

Written by Kerry Ao

Intertwined is designed to work in any modern browser, but some configurations work better than others.

Recommended Browsers

For the best Intertwined experience, use:

  • Google Chrome (latest version) — Best overall support

  • Microsoft Edge (latest version) — Excellent support, especially on Windows

  • Mozilla Firefox (latest version) — Good support

  • Apple Safari (latest version) — Good support on Mac and iOS

Older browsers (e.g., Internet Explorer, Chrome versions more than 2 years out of date) may not work properly. Some interactive features, especially simulators, require modern JavaScript and CSS support.

Device Compatibility

Desktop and laptop: Intertwined works fully on Windows, Mac, and ChromeOS devices. Laptops are ideal for simulator-heavy work because of the larger screen.

Chromebooks: Chromebooks work well. They're the most common student device, and Intertwined is tested extensively on them. If your school issues Chromebooks, you should have no compatibility issues.

Tablets: iPads and Android tablets work for most Intertwined activities, though some interactive simulator interfaces are easier on a larger screen. Best as a secondary device, not primary.

Phones: Smartphones can access Intertwined but aren't ideal — the small screen makes complex simulator interfaces hard to use. Fine for occasional check-ins, not recommended for primary use.

Internet Connection

Intertwined requires a stable internet connection. Recommended:

  • Minimum: Broadband connection of at least 5 Mbps download

  • Recommended: 10+ Mbps for smooth simulator and video performance

In schools with bandwidth issues, simulator performance may degrade during peak usage times.

School IT Requirements

If your school's IT department asks what to whitelist:

  • intertwinedfinance.com (main website)

  • app.intertwinedfinance.com (the app — where teaching and learning happens)

  • help.intertwinedfinance.com (the support center)

  • Any subdomains of intertwinedfinance.com

For email-based features (notifications, password resets, verification emails):

  • Whitelist emails from @intertwinedfinance.com

What to Do If School Blocks Intertwined

If you can't access Intertwined on school networks:

  1. Contact your school's IT department and request that Intertwined be whitelisted

  2. Provide them the domain list above

  3. If you encounter resistance, point them to the educational nature of the platform and any school or district approval documentation

  4. As a temporary workaround, mobile data or home connections will work

Pop-Up Blockers

Some Intertwined features require pop-ups (e.g., certain simulator confirmation dialogs). If you have an aggressive pop-up blocker:

  • Allow pop-ups from intertwinedfinance.com

  • Or use an incognito/private browsing window where extensions are typically disabled

Browser Extensions

Most browser extensions don't interfere with Intertwined, but a few common types can:

  • Ad blockers — May block certain analytics or interactive features

  • Privacy extensions (e.g., uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger) — May block elements

  • Screen recorders — May interfere with simulator interactions

  • VPNs — Can occasionally cause routing issues

If you're having strange UI bugs, try disabling extensions or testing in an incognito window.
